Criminal Justice Summer Camp

Sam Houston State University - Huntsville, TX
Open to high school students 15-17 interested in criminal justice. Four rigourous days of solving mock crimes, exploring prisons, visiting a morgue, being arrested and more.  Students will stay on campus at the University Hotel attached to the Criminal Justice Center.  Meals are included
Session 1:  June 15-19
Session 11 - June 29-July 3

Collin County Teen Court Internship

Collin County Teen Court is offering 3 separate weeks for an exclusive 1-week internship for those students interested in learning more about county government and the criminal justice system.  They may be involved in any or all of the following: jury selection, observing trials, observing Commissioners Court, touring detention facilities, visiting the DA's and sheriff's office, as well as other county events.

To be eligible, the student must complete his/her freshman year in high school by June 30, 2008, must have transportation to McKinney, may not have criminal convictions and consent to a background check, must have parental permission for the internship, and be able to attend the entire internship period.

Intern weeks are: June 16-20, July 14-18, and July 28-August 1.

Oxbridge Academic Programs

Cambridge and Oxford Prep Experiences - designed for students completing 8th and 9th grades to experience the intellectual and cultural riches of Cambridge or Oxford.  Students choose two courses to explore during their experience, one as their major and the other as their minor.  The staff includes many Rhodes and Gates scholars.  Students live on campus and experience many exciting excursions such as visits to London and Stratford to see Shakespeare's burial place.  Classes in the students 'major' meet six days a week while 'minor' classes meet three afternoons.  In the meantime, aside from excursions, there are activities and sports.  Students from across the globe attend this exciting summer experience.  For more information, go to the website at www.oxbridgeprograms.com  Guarantee for selected courses requires application submission by February 8, 2008. 

La Academia de Espana, L'Academie de Paris, and L'Academie de France - designed for students 9th through 12th grades to allow them to take full advantage of a European environment in order to immerse themselves in a foreign language and culture.  Beyond the exciting location, diverse student body, and well-respected staff, the students are able to visit beautiful European landmarks in a safe environment with scholars and professionals who are experts in their fields.  Like above, students will choose two courses to study, one as a major course that meets six mornings a week.  The other course, a minor, meets only three afternoons a week.  For more information, go to the website at www.oxbridgeprograms.com.  Guarantee for selected courses requires application submission by February 8, 2008.

If Politics is your Passion...

The Junior Statesmen Foundation Summer Programs allows students to gain firsthand knowledge of politics.  Four universities, Georgetown, Yale, Princeton and Stanford, provide the advanced college curriculum and experience for 9th through 12th grade students.  Online applications are available at www.jsa.org/summer08.  Also, a 2-3 page essay describing your qualifications as well as your transcript and a teacher or counselor recommendation must be included.  Discounts to the cost can be granted with early applications, either February 28, 2008, or March 28, 2008.

West Point Military Academy will host two sessions of the 32nd Annual Summer Leaders Seminar in June 2007.  The first session is scheduled for June 2-8 and the second session is June 9-15.  The Summer Leaders Seminar provides outstanding high school juniors the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the academic, physical and leadership development programs at a service academy.  If you are in the top fifth of your high school class and have strong PSAT scores as well as a desire to be a leader please contact Mrs. McFadden for an application or apply online at http://admissions.usma.edu.
