Group Counseling Sessions available for students at Celina High School

If you are interesting in joining one of our groups please email me your name, grade level, and the group(s) you are interested in and I will get back to you on days/times/availability.  You may also fill out the information on the group counseling form and place it in my drop box located just inside the main office.  (Forms are located by the drop box.)

Due to the number of groups offered not all groups will be available at all times.  Groups will consist of 4-8 members and will last from 4-8 weeks depending on the group.

SALVAGING SISTERHOOD

This group is designed to teach relationally aggressive girls to develop empathy and develop a strong sense of self.  Designed to lessen the incidence of gossip and backstabbing and teach girls how to be positive leaders and role models.



TEEN PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

This group is designed to offer support and information useful to teens who have children or are expectant parents.  It will be a great place to share and discuss parenting tips, struggles of being a teenage parent as well as solutions to overcoming obstacles.


GRIEVING STUDENTS

This group is designed for students who have lost someone close to them.  This will be a safe place to share feelings as we work through the stages of grief.


DEALING WITH DIVORCE

This group is designed for students whose parents are divorced or are going through a divorce.  We will discuss topics of feelings involved with divorce, new living arrangements, step-parents, step-siblings, etc


ASSERTION SKILLS

This group is designed to help students discriminate among nonassertive, assertive, and aggressive communication styles.  To communicate the idea that people have certain personal rights and that these rights form the basis for assertive behavior.  This group will provide opportunities to discuss and practice assertion skill to aid in using assertion skills in appropriate situations outside the group.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

This group is designed to promote an understanding of the stress response and individual stressors.  We will learn techniques for managing stress through progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and positive coping statements. 


SELF-ESTEEM

This group is designed to encourage students to become more aware of their perceptions of themselves and to help them let go of unrealistic or perfectionistic demands of themselves



SCHOOL SURVIVAL AND SUCCESS

This group is designed to help students learn how to better manage their time, set goals, learn more effective classroom and study skills as well as manage test anxiety, and negative peer pressure and destructive influences.

ANGER MANAGEMENT

This group is designed for chronically angry teens.  Strategies to help reduce anger and seek more positive solutions.


ADD/ADHD SUPPORT GROUP

This group is designed to help students find strategies to help them improve their academic and social/emotional abilities.


SUBSTANCE ABUSE SUPPORT GROUP

This group is designed to be a source of support and encouragement for those students battling addictions to alcohol or drugs.  This is not to be used in replacement of a alateen, AA, or NA but it will introduce the twelve step program.


FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE

This group is designed to provide necessary financial skills to students as they prepare to leave home and become financially independent.  It will discuss the importance of maintaining good credit, the pitfalls of credit cards, loans, etc.  We will also discuss how to make a realistic budget for housing, utilities, transportation, etc. and what it will take to become truly financially independent.  The goal of this group is to become more financial saavy and better prepared financially to live on their own.


MEETING, MAKING, AND KEEPING FRIENDS

This group is designed to encourage understanding of what it means to be a friend and to have friends, to deal with positive and negative feelings in friendship situations.  Students will also be encouraged to seek out new friends and understand the "clique phenomenon."
